The beauty about becoming a driving instructor is that you are your own boss. You choose the hours you want to work and you decide when you want to take your days off. Some driving instructors have children so they can work around them and some want to work all the hours under the sun. The choice is yours.
What’s the minimum criteria to become a driving instructor?
You should be at least 21 years old
You should have a minimum of 3 and half years driving experience from passing your driving test
You should have less than 6 points on your driving licence. (Email/Call us for more info on this as it can vary slightly)
You should have no serious convictions against you, a CRB check from the DSA is required. (Email/Call us for more info – minor offences are often accepted by the DSA and they do consider the time since your last offence too)
What can a driving instructor earn?
If you are a Peak Driving Instructor you can expect to earn up to 50k a year if you are willing to do 50 hours a week, 35k-40k if you are willing to do 40 hours a week and around 25-30k if you want to do 30 hours a week. Our driving instructor franchise is very low and affordable compared to national companies, hence your earning potential.
What do you have to do to qualify to be a driving instructor ?
After you have passed your CRB check you can really get the ball rolling with the qualifying process. There are 3 driving instructor exams you must pass in order to become fully qualified:
– Part 1: Theory and hazard perception test
– Part 2: Ability to drive test
– Part 3: Ability to teach test
How much does it cost to become a driving instructor ?
If you choose to become a driving instructor with Peak Driving then you should expect to pay in the region of £1000-£1500 for all three exams and one to one training tuition.
If you choose a conveyor belt company like Red Driving School that doesn’t offer one to one training all the time, then you can expect to pay in the region of £3500-£4000 for all three exams and one to one training.
